Mission and Values

Our Mission

To reach students for Christ and equip students to serve.

The church sends RUF to SMU so that we might invite students into a relationship with their Savior.  No person is out of reach of the loving invitation of God in the Gospel.  For those who are already Christ followers, we disciple through modeling and teaching what our Lord Jesus commanded us.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

- Matthew 28:19-20

Our Values

Real People

All of us are broken- no matter who you are or where you come from.  Our tendency is to present the best face in every situation, but we do this because we like to hide.  The Gospel allows the space for us to be honest and ultimately humble about our own pride and insecurities.  RUF is a place where you can show up with your doubt and brokenness.  Jesus says to all:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

- Matthew 11:28-20

Deep Truth

We profess and proclaim the riches of the majesty of Jesus Christ.  Eternal life is to be found in Jesus Christ, a truth so mysterious and profound that it invites us deeper into the grace and glory of God.  By becoming partakers of the glory of God, we are enriched and satisfied in a way that nothing else can.  As Augustine said, "You have made us for yourself, oh Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you."  Jesus says to all:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

- John 14:6

Rich Fellowship

We all long for community, to be with people we know and love and who know and love us.  Rich fellowship is a result of real people abiding in deep truth.  All community centers itself on some unifying characteristic.  Christians unite around the gospel-the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.  We believe that unity in the gospel is the richest relationship one can have and that we will be together worshipping and enjoying God for eternity.  Paul describes our relationship to God and to one another:

"There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

- Ephesians 4:4-6
